Truth and Consequences

A wort attributed to the Yehudi Hakadosh as well as the Kotzker Rebbe states that while Vayikra 19:11 commands all Jews not to lie to one another, a hassid is someone who will not lie even to himself.
Or, to paraphrase the most famous line from the Vice-Presidential Debates of the 1988 election: Mr. Olmert, I know hassidim, hassidim are friends of mine, and you're no hassid!
